wednesday

So today was spent entirely in Steyr.

This is a statue of Josef Werndl, who brought electricity to Steyr: this is the first European city to have electric street lighting. He and his company also invented an easier to use rifle, as pictured above in the arms of his workers. The people of Steyr were grateful for his kind heart.

The walk from the river to downtown. The flags represent the different regions of Austria.
This is the STeyr River. In the city this river and the Enns combine to one.
This is the town hall.

These goats were in the grassed in moat that used to surround the castle. The one with the antlers jumped into an open window after I took this picture.

For dinner we went to Johannes' house!

Carl is the funniest person I have met since we've been here. Daniel took many action shots of him but this is my favorite.

Aunt Gerry and Uncle Franz. Today was their 20th wedding anniversary! :) This morning for breakfast Uncle Franz got fresh bakery rolls and goodies and we all ate them outside! He also had 20 roses delivered, and Aunt Gerry wore her wedding dress at the table! :) The best part was that we were all there to share it with them, including Marillyn and Grandpa Bernie, for their final Austrian meal before they took off to New Jersey.
Surprise: I got a haircut this morning!
Randy enjoying one of many drinks in Johannes' backyard. The drainage pipes direct rain water from the rooftops down into the greenhouse for the plants.

Daniel kissing a slice of cake. Johannes' grandmother made the jelly (I think raspberry?) which fell into the cake like a lipstick smear.

Bernie, Andy, and Johannes. The entire night and day was relaxing. In the afternoon we went to Uncle Franz's workplace to tour the building and plant, but unfortunately I was not able to go into the plant because I was wearing flipflops. Next we met up with the above boys at a go cart center. Again I had the problem with the shoes, but I liked to watch them whiz by.

Only one more full day left in Austria... :( Have a good night.
