This hit me first yesterday, crossing into NJ. Yes, new jersey is sometimes like a whole other continent. I think because I just crossed the Bay Bridge last week for a great vacation to Fenwick Island /Ocean City MD, my mind believed I was just heading out again for another small getaway. But then when I finished crossing the delaware memorial bridge, literally leaving thunderstorms behind me, and when I saw the NJ turnpike delicately imprinted with sunset light, at that moment I grew sentimental for both the things that are yet to come and for the summer I've left behind.
When I got to my dad's house last night, Randy grilled steaks and we enjoyed a great dinner, capped with the strawberry rhubarb pie Cristy and I made the day before.

The only baking ingredient we were without was milk, so Cristy took the insulated baggie while I continued to stir rhubarb. That's Cristy on her way to the store.
After our dinner, we got the full flavor of New Providence's clever detective work. Dad Randy and I biked down to the pool to set off some fireworks, since we none of us watched them together. We set off a box of 50 mini-rockets that sailed 25-30 feet in the air, and then am-scrayed the vicinity. We left JayCee park, crossed the bridge towards the high school, and found a cop car idling near the football field. We were 99 percent clear of the area, when suddenly the car sped around the corner and screeched beside us. "So...you didn't set off fireworks just now, did you?"
Later I got the chance to go on a late night diner run. I got a toasted bagel because I'm back in NJ and they're delicious! :)
This morning I finally had my eyes checked and lo-and-behold my prescription changed dramatically. I'm really thankful to have this all straightened out before the trip.
We have a few more hours in NJ, so I think for now I'm going to shower and then put to use these new pair of crystal clear contacts. :)

Oh man, I'm excited for you and your trip to Austria, but I'm most excited about your new contacts. Nothing feels as good as putting in fresh wet clean contacts that are the right perscription. sigh. Have fun on your trip!
I'd have to agree with Katie--any day with new contacts is a great day!!!! Have fun in Austria, I had no idea you were going this summer!!! (settle down, exclamation!)
